Junior GolfThe Poplar Creek Golf Staff is a serious advocate in the promotion of commitment to junior golf. We believe that golf is a game for life and in so many ways prepares young players with life skills that are learned thru the game of golf. We want to share our love and passion for the game with our junior golfers. Our commitment to junior golf has many facets please review the following programs: Youth on Course (YOC)The City of San Mateo’s Poplar Creek Golf Course is an active member in the NCGA’s Youth on Course (YOC) program. The YOC offers children across Northern California 18 years and under the opportunity to play some of the area's best courses for $5 or less while kids put to use the life skills and values training they learned in their Youth on Course certified program. Junior Golf Private LessonsWith private instruction, lessons are scheduled with the instructor for a day and time that is convenient for the student. Lessons are specifically tailored to your skill level and the part of your game you wish to improve. The lessons are given in the indoor swing simulator, practice swing cages and practice short game areas. Private instruction for juniors is $45. Junior Golf ClinicsJunior golf clinics for students ages 9-17 are offered in collaboration with the City of San Mateo’s Park and Recreation Department. The series consists of four one-hour lessons. The clinics are run in accordance to the PGA of America’s Play Golf America program. The lessons cover all phases of the game. Short game principles, including chipping, pitching, sand play, and putting are covered. Golf etiquette and rules of the game, along with how to manage your game on the golf course are additional topics that are reviewed. Northern California Junior Golf Association (JGANC)Poplar Creek Golf Course has partnered with the JGANC in the way of hosting 3 junior golf tournaments annually. The Tom Culligan Junior Tournament is held in June. The Robert O’Brien Junior Tournament is held in July as well as the JGANC Jr. Advisor Shootout. The JGANC offers many playing opportunities for children throughout Northern California.
